NIMITZ THE QUARTERBACK: GIUK GATE CONFIGURATION -- GIUKHG02

Scenario edited by: Hector Gomez HARPBBS# 879

Background: Task force 60 - newly configured for the North Sea
power projection by NATO has been strategically positioned
north of Iceland's coast. Its mission, to provide a warning
beacon for the Atlantic forces as well as a deterrent to
the threat posed by the Soviet Navy's Murmansk North
Fleet. A complete mix of first-line US naval hardware
has been selected for this maneuver. The configuration:

1 (CV) Nimitz class 2 (SSN) Los Angeles class
2 (BB) Iowa class 2 (SSN) Sturgeon class
            2 (CGN) Virginia class
3 (CG) Aegis modified VLS Tico class
            3 (CG) Ticonderoga class
            6 (DDG) C.F. Adams class
            8 (FF) O.H. Perry class

Situation: As expected, NATO has deployed supporting hardware for
Task Force 60's anticipation of the RED navy's "breakout".
Recon satellite photos confirm at least two Soviet
carrier formations have sortied south heading for the
Iceland-Norwegian channel. NATO's main objective is to
actively seek and destroy all RED opposition in the area.

Intelligence:
Two Kiev CVHG battlegroups escorted by intermediate grade
cruisers and destroyers have been confirmed heading
             towards the GIUK gap.

Blue Orders:
Configure Task force 60's assets to conform a dual role
model (offensive 50% / defensive 50%). Total victory
requires the destruction of 2 RED bases.

Playing variations:
To fully exploit the enhancements made in this scenario,
try to play the simulation with the suggested 50-50
offense/defense ratio. Use the Nimitz inner circle
(Iowas and Virginias) as your reference points in
controlling your tactical preference. Subs were
deliberately placed as front-line buffers to conform
with defensive requirements. There is enough variable
conditions in this setup to accommodate a multi-start
as well as multi-path mix. This scenario can be played
on BOTH sides (RED OR BLUE).

Scenario requirements:
When playing this scenario I recommend the following:
             1. Set game parameters to "IGNORE ships running aground".
             2. This is an extremely large scenario and can only be
played if all your resident programs are loaded into
upper memory by an EMM software. QEMM-386max-DOS 5.0
                highly recommended.

Finally: Please feel free to send me your feedback on this scenario.
Your comments will be highly appreciated. I welcome
corrections on any deficiencies you might encounter.
